While Senseal’s
epoxy sealants and adhesives are relatively new to Australia,
they have been achieving outstanding results in the United States
and Europe for decades.
In 1972 Steve
Smith, physicist and chemist, was looking to solve his
expensive wooden boat repair problems when he invented a Clear
Penetrating Epoxy Sealer™ (CPES™ – also
known as Multi-Primer).
Use of Multi-Primer
quickly spread amongst serious boating enthusiasts and professionals.
Smith went on to invent companion products, Fill-It™,
All Wood Glue™ (Glue-It)
and Layup & Laminating Epoxy Resin™ (Laminate-It)
to cover the entire range of critically high quality products
required for boat repairs, both wooden ferro-cement and fibreglass.
It is during this time, in the mid 1970s that Smith discovered
the causes of fibreglass osmosis blistering and developed
the technology to overcome this until then baffling problem.
Through the 80's and 90's Smith has continued to develop his
uniquely functional products and application techniques so
that now most of his epoxy resin products can be applied in
all weather conditions (wet and down to -2 degrees centigrade
with his patented Dual Synergistic Catalyst™), withstanding
the most extreme marine weather conditions, while remaining
easy to use and still achieving far superior results than
any other epoxy resin system.
Throughout the years, companies like www.rotdoctor.com
in the United States, Costal
Epoxy Restoration in Canada and www.lignu.com
in Europe have conducted numerous
tests and independent scientific studies into the functionality
of Smith's epoxy resins. In addition, customers keep discovering
amazing uses for them! In Finland for example, Multi-Primer
is routinely used on concrete and steel. In Smith's own words:
"About ten years ago it was discovered that the Clear
Penetrating Epoxy Sealer™ [Multi-Primer] prevented freeze-thaw
damage to concrete. This was verified by an extensive test
at the VTT institute in Finland. For about ten years, the
product was manufactured under license in Finland and used
to treat buildings and roadway and bridge deck surfaces, to
protect against both freeze-thaw and salt permeation. Salt
is used to melt ice on road surfaces. The salt water penetrates
into the concrete and accelerates corrosion of the steel reinforcing
in the concrete. The impregnation with a hydrophobic material
which allows water vapour to pass, but not liquid water, solves
both these problems."
Today, Smith's uniquely wood resin based epoxy sealants and
adhesives are used on wood, concrete, metal, and fibreglass
materials that need the highest quality protection, preservation,
repair and long lasting topcoats. The logic has held true
that if they can withstand the extreme marine environments
they'll certainly handle house, furniture and construction
conditions.
The eternal inventor, Smith's most recent invention, which
Senseal hopes to make available for general use in Australia
soon, is Five
Year Clear. Five Year Clear is what it says, a clear topcoat
(polyurethane) for wood that has been shown to last at least
five years fully exposed to even tropical weather!
Senseal is excited to bring these superior epoxy products
to Australia – we hope they'll amaze you with their
outstanding features, multiple uses and high quality. Contact
