GLUE-IT
Application Instructions
Glue-It is a high performance wood-derived (not petrochemical)
resin adhesive. Glue-It is designed for those tasks that require
maximum strength with flexibility as well as being waterproof
and weatherproof. Glue-It incorporates the break through science
developed by Smith & Co. who have pioneered the use of
wood derived resin systems and the ‘Dual Synergistic
Catalyst System’™. The result is a unique product
with features unmatched by any other adhesive.
Pot Life & Curing Times
A general guide for the pot life and curing times for Glue-It
are listed in the table below. Other factors influencing the
curing times are listed afterwards.

Glue-It Pot Life & Curing Times
Several factors affect the curing times for Glue-It, and require
an 'on-the-job' judgement:
- You can tell if Glue-It is ready to sand when it no longer
'gums' up the sand paper – generally at the times
indicated that it is substantially cured;
- The thicker the application of Glue-It and the deeper
into any material it is applied, the longer it will take
to fully cure;
- The varying day and night time temperatures should be
taken into consideration when reading the table above;
- It is important to keep rain and dew away from Glue-It
while curing. If there is high humidity, the curing time
will be longer; and,
- A well ventilated area is recommended, as fresh drier
air will shorten the curing time.
Shelf Life
If Glue-It is stored unopened, above freezing, and is sealed
correctly it should virtually last forever! Once opened, however,
if sealed correctly between uses, it will easily last a year.
Preparation
Glue-It is a two-part Epoxy resin mixed with a ratio of 1:1. When
preparing Glue-It for use Senseal recommends that you:
- Mix a smaller quantity than you think you will need to
begin with;
- Before mixing, ensure that both parts A & B of Glue-It
are at room temperature (between 20°C and 30°C);
- Measure out equal parts of container A and B into a sturdy
plastic or metal disposable container that is clean from
any other materials. Mix the resin thoroughly by stirring
(with a clean, disposable implement that is not a light
plastic, foam brush or paint covered). It is crucial that
the two equal parts are thoroughly mixed; and,
- Allow the mixture to sit for 10 to 20 minutes (the colder
it is, the longer it should sit) before use. This allows
the two parts to start reacting together generating the
strong adhesive properties.
Application
When using Glue-It, Senseal makes the following recommendations:
- Do not use solvents on the wood as these could affect
bonding;
- Mix equal volumes of parts A and B. It is important to
mix thoroughly;
- Allow mixture to sit for 10 to 20 minutes before applying
a 1 mm thick coating to the surfaces to be joined. The aim
is to apply enough glue to avoid ‘starving the joint’
due to absorption into porous surfaces;
- For end-grain or particularly rough or porous surfaces,
use more glue and allow the glue to sit on the wood joints
for at least half the pot life before assembly;
- Clamp together taking care not to over-tighten;
- Soft rubber pads placed under clamp faces will help maintain
an even pressure on the joint. Wipe away excess glue (with
a paper towel) and clean up with Senseal’s Epoxy Clean-It
before glue gels. Once cured there is no solvent that will
work;
- To stabilise, bind and preserve the wood, treat with
Senseal’s Multi-Primer
before and after gluing. Treating the surface to be glued
will prevent joint starving in porous materials plus will
strengthen the wood surface of softer woods and improve
the glue bond. Treating with Multi-Primer after the glue
has set will maximise the durability of the whole construction
and create an adhesion promoting surface for paint, varnish
or polyurethane finishing;
- Where a more liquid consistency is required for large
area plywood gluing or for fiberglass lay-up use Senseal’s
Laminate-It;
- Where a glue with maximum flexibility is required to
absorb stresses from impact or vibration or when gluing
together two materials with different expansion rates, use
Senseal’s Tropical
Hardwood Epoxy Glue; and,
- Where a filler that is aggressively adhesive is required
use Senseal’s Fill-It.

Precautions & First Aid Instructions |
- Avoid contact with eyes –
wear eye protection when mixing or using.
- Avoid contact with skin –
wear gloves or protective cream.
- Avoid breathing dust or vapour
– ensure adequate ventilation when using and
curing.
- In confined areas, users must wear
approved respiratory protection for organic vapours.
- Keep away from heat, sparks and
flame – no smoking.
- In case of a spill, absorb, scoop
or shovel up and dispose of in accordance with Local
Government Regulations.
|
- If ill effects occur, remove person
to fresh air and get prompt medical attention.
- If skin contact occurs, wash promptly
with soap and water.
- If eye contact occurs, flush with
plenty of water for at least five minutes and get
prompt medical attention.
- If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting
– give a glass of water.
- If poisoning occurs, contact a
doctor or Poisons Information Centre Telephone 13
11 26.
