LAMINATE-IT
Application
Instructions
Senseal’s Laminate-It ( Layup and Laminating
Epoxy Resin™) is a two-part epoxy resin that is easy
to use, high strength, flexible and versatile. It can be used
in the repair and construction of timber, fibreglass, and
epoxy composites or as a general purpose adhesive. Laminate-It
was originally designed for glass layup in glass/polyester/timber
boat hulls.
Pot Life & Curing Times
A general guide for the pot life and curing times for Laminate-It
are listed in the table below. Other factors influencing the
curing times are listed afterwards.

Laminate-It Pot Life & Curing Times
Several factors affect the curing times for
Laminate-It, and require an 'on-the-job' judgement:
- Thicker and deeper applications of Laminate-It will take
longer to cure;
- The varying day and night time temperatures should be
taken into consideration when reading the table above;
- It is important to keep rain and dew away from Laminate-It
while curing. If there is a high humidity, the curing time
will be longer; and,
- Good ventilation and drier and warmer air will shorten
the curing time.
Shelf Life
If Laminate-It is stored unopened, above freezing, and is
sealed correctly it should virtually last forever! Once opened,
however, if sealed correctly during uses, it will easily last
a year.
Coverage
When 'wetting' fibreglass, the weight ratio of glass cloth
to Laminate-It required is 1:1. When setting timber joints
or gluing plywood sheeting 1 millimetre of Laminate-It covers
1 square metre.
Application Methods
Laminate-It can be applied by brushing, pouring/injection, and cloth
'dabbing.' When mixing and applying Laminate-It, be sure to wear
protective clothing such as rubber gloves, eye goggles and
an organic vapour filtering respiration mask.
- Brushing – Only use natural bristle
brushes with Laminate-It as foam brushes will melt.
- Injecting – A high quality medical
or solvent syringe is required, or it can be carefully poured
from a solid plastic pouring container into hard to reach
cracks and holes.
- Cloth Dabbing – When wetting fibreglass
cloth, or a precision is required, a disposable non-fibrous
cloth can be used to carefully 'dab' Laminate-It onto the
intended surface area.
Preparing Laminate-It
Laminate-It is a two part epoxy resin mixed with a ratio of
1:1. When first mixed, Laminate-It will be a milky colour
and as it cures it turns almost transparent. When preparing
Laminate-It for use:
- Mix a smaller quantity than you think you will need to
begin with;
Ensure that both parts A and B of Laminate-It are at room
temperature – between 20°- 30?C;
- If working temperatures are above 30C or quantities larger
than 2 litres are being mixed, it is recommended to cool
the Laminate-It containers before mixing (either by surrounding
the sealed cans in cooler water or briefly placing them
in the refrigerator);
- Measure out equal parts of A and B into a sturdy plastic
or metal disposable container that is clean from any other
materials;
- Mix thoroughly by stirring with a clean disposable implement
(not a light plastic, foam brush or anything with a paint
cover) until a consistent milky colour is achieved. Up to
15% volume difference in mixing ratio will not alter the
cured properties significantly; and,
- If working at temperatures below 25°C, once mixed,
Laminate-It should be allowed to sit for 10-15 minutes of
'pot-curing' time in order to thin out. If working temperatures
are above this, use immediately. Laminate-It must be used
within the pot-life times indicated.
Applying Laminate-It
- Rot Repair – To aid in the repair of rotten
wood (where Fill-It
won't easily reach or to strengthen very badly rot damaged
wood) apply Laminate-It onto Multi-Primed
timber by brush or pouring. Senseal’s Fill-It can
then be applied to restore original shape.
- Wood Jointing & Plywood Sheeting – Apply
Laminate-It to both surfaces and allow them to sit for half
the pot life before lightly clamping them together. Apply
sufficient Laminate-It for absorption into the timber to
avoid 'starving the joint' especially on end grain, soft
plywood sheeting or rough surfaces.
- For Fibreglass Lay-Up – Laminate-It is used
like any other fibreglass resins but has the following advantage:
because there is no appreciable ‘blush’ on the
surface of Laminate-It once touch dry, you do not need to
sand it before applying another fibreglass layer!
- Cleaning Up – Senseal's Epoxy Clean-It
will dissolve Laminate-It before it has 'gelled' and allow
for excess Laminate-It to be wiped clean. Once cured there
is no way to remove it.
- Using The Right Glue – For thicker consistency
glue use Senseal’s Glue-It.
For maximum flexibility and stress absorption use Senseal's
Tropical
Hardwood Epoxy Glue™.

Precautions & First Aid Instructions |
- Avoid contact with eyes –
wear eye protection when mixing or using.
- Avoid contact with skin –
wear gloves or protective cream.
- Avoid breathing dust or vapour
– ensure adequate ventilation when using and
curing.
- In confined areas, users must wear
approved respiratory protection for organic vapours.
- Keep away from heat, sparks and
flame – no smoking.
- In case of a spill, absorb, scoop
or shovel up and dispose of in accordance with Local
Government Regulations.
|
- If ill effects occur, remove person
to fresh air and get prompt medical attention.
- If skin contact occurs, wash promptly
with soap and water.
- If eye contact occurs, flush with
plenty of water for at least five minutes and get
prompt medical attention.
- If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting
– give a glass of water.
- If poisoning occurs, contact a
doctor or Poisons Information Centre Telephone 13
11 26.
